woonerf

The word of the day is woonerf.

From WikiP: A Woonerf (plural woonerven) in the Netherlands and Flanders is a street or group of streets in a town or city where pedestrians and cyclists have legal priority over motorists.

Architecture Week adds: A shared street is a mixed-use public domain for a variety of activities like playing, talking, relaxing, watching, or gardening. In the shared street, pedestrians and vehicles share the same space, which is designed to slow traffic and to support play and social uses.
